2006 PGA Merchandise Show Report
Our feet were killing us! We
spent three solid days walking up and down the aisles of the giant Orange
County Convention Center (over a million square feet!) to view the wares
of virtually every golf manufacturer in the business -- 1200 plus
companies. Because the newest products will often not be appearing
in retail pro shops for up to a year, it's the perfect opportunity for
advance trend-spotting. Our goal is to offer the very best, so we
look for innovative products from new companies as well as established
manufacturers.
A few of the highlights:
Bobby Jones introduced an all-new
in-stock collection, which will be available for orders starting around
mid-March. The Signature collection is gorgeous -- as always! --
and we were especially impressed with the new fancy polos from the
Players collection. Elegant patterns and luxurious, double
mercerized Peruvian Pima cotton make a terrific combination -- the
garments are all top-drawer. Bobby Jones also introduced a new
line of fine watches and timepieces, and a collection of leather and
exotic leather accessories, both of which we are pleased to add to our
offerings.
Zero Restriction's new microsuede outerwear
models and patterns were just stunning. We couldn't wait to show
the new herringbone microsuede windshirt to our clients! And the
women's Anita microsuede jacket and quilted vest, both due to be
available in fall, will be sure winners with the ladies.
On the equipment side, we loved
Callaway's new Terra Firma stand bag. The angle of the bottom
adjusts to lie flat on the ground when the bag is tilted on its
stand. (How do they do that?) Of course, the new clubs were
equally innovative -- and there's new and better technology for every
skill level.
Sport-Haley's women's golf apparel so
impressed the ladies of the Corporate Golf team that we have added the
brand to our lineup (and our wardrobes!). Sport-Haley's stylish
polos, pullovers, and bottoms are great, and their sweaters and
outerwear are simply beautiful.
We were pleased to see a great new
selection of fleece and outerwear from SDI, and have returned this brand
- the pioneer in fleece outerwear for golf - to our product line.
A great collection of sporty new fashions
in high-tech fabrics from Adidas Golf convinced us to add this brand as
well.
Our vote for the best new product idea
goes to Sunderland of Scotland for their disposable rain suit.
It's made of non-woven fabric treated to be highly water-resistant, with
a suggested retail price under $25. We imagine it's something
every upscale resort will be stocking for the proverbial rainy day so
guests who were looking forward to playing can still enjoy their
rounds. And attention meeting and tournament planners: give one of
these to each of your players, and you won't have to worry about iffy
weather cutting your outing short. It's cost-effective "rain
insurance" - and if it stays sunny, your players will think of you
with appreciation some other time!
Sunderland of Scotland previewed the
first collection from their new designer -- which looked great. Penfolds, another
venerable Scottish golfwear brand, was acquired by Sunderland, and we
plan to offer the cream of that line to our clients as well. The Penfolds rain suit -- and its
price! -- was especially appealing. Although the new models will
not be available to ship for some time, we look forward to offering them
to our clients when they are.
Of course, there's plenty new and notable
from our other brands. We hope to update this newsletter soon, and
post pictures and info on the new items on our brand feature
pages. So stop back again!
